CGI animated tattoo

From the live footage, I recreated a realistic tattoo growing on the actor's arm, with a seamless transition from the branch tattoo on the arm to the knife.

3D matchmove and rotomation

To sit the tattoo on the moving arm, I modeled a 3D arm and fitted it to the shot, then animated it to match the real arm's movement with rotomation, so the CGI tracked the skin exactly.

The 2D tattoo from a 3D animation

For the growing tattoo, I animated a 3D branch in Cinema 4D. That gave me full control over the look and the size of each branch, to match Deejo's original tattoo design.
