Octo

A poetic odyssey through abstract 3D architecture

We Make Something imagined an "Out of the round" campaign for the Bulgari Octo watch, and I directed the 3D film: an architectural journey built entirely from abstract shapes, without a single curve.

I oversaw the design of each section of the journey and laid out the full scene to set the scale of every space. Working only with straight lines and simple forms, cubes, rectangles, triangles, we still reached a great variety of environments. Thomas Charier and Jerome Levilly modeled each area, and I lit the scenes with shafts of light and shadow for strong contrasts.

The music came from a lot of back-and-forth with the composer, and I took real pleasure tuning the rhythm of each animation so it locked perfectly to the sound. Thomas Charier animated some of the sequences with me. It's still one of my favourite projects.
