Formula E Trailer
A stylized 3D trailer and Fan Boost animation for DS Automobiles and the Paris E-Prix, with Mazarine.
Overview
Mazarine asked me to direct a stylized 3D trailer and motion-design assets for DS Automobiles around the Paris E-Prix. I directed the film and handled the look dev, shader development, 3D animation, lighting and compositing.
The visual idea was to symbolize electricity in an elegant sci-fi style, with the Formula E car and Paris landmarks rebuilt as stylized glowing lines, particles and procedural shaders.
Fan Boost Animation
Leveraging the stylized city made for the trailer, I directed a short Fan Boost animation focused on the driver's helmet. I played with light reflections across the metallic surface to emphasize speed and the acceleration of the Formula E.
Formula E - DSV01
We recreated the DSV01 texture set to match the 2016 decorative kit, then used the car as the central object of the trailer. Thomas Charier handled the 3D modeling and texture work, and I worked on the animation, lighting and compositing.
Look Dev Experiments
I made the look dev and shader development for the project, experimenting with particles, luminous lines and shading effects to find a graphic language that felt electric without becoming noisy. I built a procedural shader that could be applied to any geometry and generate random graphic and luminous variations from each object's ID. Every object could look different while staying coherent in style through a single shader.
