Kérastase Chronologiste Ritual
A 3D film for Kérastase's Chronologiste ritual box, lit to bring out its gold and black materials.
Overview
Kérastase's marketing team asked me to direct a 3D film for the new Chronologiste ritual box. I ran the project from the first exchanges with Kérastase to delivery and supervised the team.
Lighting the gold and black
The brief was to use the lighting to show the materials of the Chronologiste line, gold on black. Polished gold and glossy black are hard to shoot for real, as they reflect the whole set. In 3D, I could decide what every surface reflects. I placed the lights so the gold always carries a reflection and the black keeps a highlight along its edges, then worked on how those reflections move with the camera, so they slide across the metal as each shot plays.
The ritual, in film and stills
The box brings together a mask, the pearls, a bowl and a set of gold tools, and the film had to make each piece clear without losing the black and gold mood. Each one gets its own shot. The key visuals were rendered from the same 3D scenes, so the stills match the film exactly, all from one production.
