Excalibur Spider Pirelli
3D animation of the Excalibur Spider Pirelli, Roger Dubuis' first fully customizable watch.
Overview
This film unveils the Excalibur Spider Pirelli, Roger Dubuis' first fully customizable watch. I directed and edited it, and handled the 3D end to end, from the art direction to the final render.
High-fidelity materials for close-ups
I built fully procedural materials in Arnold, using its shading to get a detailed, realistic worn-rubber look that holds up even in extreme close-ups.
Hand-sculpted 3D details
I sculpted organic details onto the watch, the case bezels, the rubber crown and the strap patterns, lifting the realism well beyond the technical CAD files we started from.
Animated watch mechanism
I animated every gear in the movement with a custom plugin that rigs them all, each one turning by its real number of teeth for an accurate mechanism.
