Game of Love
Premium 3D animations for Prada's Valentine's Day campaign, made with Seiya around a heart-shaped labyrinth.
A game of love
Seiya brought me back in for their client Prada, this time on a Valentine's Day concept they had developed around a heart-shaped labyrinth. I led the 3D animation and also handled the modeling, shading, lighting and compositing, with Rémi Loger on animation and Morgane Costantini on modeling.
The labyrinth and the products
We follow a metal ball rolling through the heart-shaped labyrinth, meeting iconic Prada products along the way: Luna Rossa, Paradoxe, Iris and Candy. Each time the ball strikes a product, a burst of coloured light blooms around it, picking up that product's own colour.
I built a rig that tilts the labyrinth on several axes, like the classic tilting maze game where you steer a metal ball by tipping the board. That let me drive the ball with real physics: a dynamics simulation rolled it as the board moved and tilted, and I layered hand-keyed animation on top wherever a shot needed it. We hold the heart shape back for the final top-shot, tying it to Valentine's Day.
The craft
For a photoreal look on the products, I rendered with Arnold in Cinema 4D, then handled the compositing and grading in Nuke to land the final look.
Versions and ratios
We built several versions with different product combinations at the end, across four ratios: 16/9, 9/16, 1/1 and 4/5. I set up custom cameras and renders per ratio so every crop held up.
