Elixir Ultime
A 3D reveal film for Kérastase's new Elixir Ultime, from the Camellia to the refillable bottle.
The Elixir Ultime reveal
I directed this 3D reveal film for Kérastase, and did the art direction, the animation and the shading, lighting and compositing, with the team on the modeling and simulations.
It ran long: we started in 2022, at the very beginning of Elixir Ultime, and I reworked the animation with Kérastase’s team over the months as the product’s design and labeling evolved, so the film always matched the latest bottle.
Key Ingredient Visualization
The film opens on the Camellia, the ingredient at the heart of Elixir Ultime. The team built it as a highly detailed CGI flower with Houdini’s procedural modeling, which let us try different shapes and sizes and tune it to what Kérastase wanted.
CGI Flower Animations
The flower carries the middle of the film. I directed these sequences, setting the layout, timing and look of each beat, with the team running the simulations. It bursts first, petals drifting in slow motion and opening onto a fluid simulation from the core. The petals then unfold to reveal the Elixir Ultime bottle in a soft blossoming. And in macro, the product’s oil meets the Camellia up close, in fine detail.
Product Highlight
The second half of the film turns to the bottle itself.
Refillable Feature Showcase
Here the focus is the new refillable design. I built a slow-motion explosion of the bottle, taking it apart component by component, from the inside out. Every product shot keeps something moving, like the bubbles drifting through the oil, so it stays alive rather than static.
